Arrivals
According to Richie Mills, a specialist Brighton and Hove Albion reporter, Leverkusen and an unnamed Italian club are interested in 17-year-old left back Zak Sturge who has recently been called up to England's U18 team for the first time. There has not been any other news regarding the player.
Bursa.com claims that Bayer Leverkusen are following the 20-year-old Turkish U21 striker Batuhan Kör. We shouldn't have made an official bid for the player however - it is said we will only make an offer depending on the player's performances over the coming games. The player scored 11 goals in 33 matches last season.
Departures
Mitchell Weiser has left the club on a season long loan to Werder Bremen in the 2. Bundesliga, just days after his very public outburst over his unhappiness at being at Bayer 04. There is no option to buy as part of the deal. He wants playing time and shall surely get it at the green and whites and hopefully showcase performances good enough for a club to take him on permanently.
Our U21 international goalkeeper Lennart Grill yesterday went on loan to Norwegian side Brann Bergen who currently sit bottom of the Eliteserien. Given the timetable of the football season in Norway, the loan is at first until December but it is probable he will stay on loan even longer either at Brann or another club. Hopefully he should get good experience and lots of gametime with a team who have recent history with German goalkeepers having signed Ralf Fährmann on loan during the 2019/20 campaign.
Joel Pohjanpalo is another player we have been trying to get out of the door before the transfer window shuts. However, the Finn does not expect a transfer saying in a press conference yesterday, "Let's see first if anything else happens here in the next few days. For now, at least it looks like I'm staying in Leverkusen to fight for playing time". Given the window closed at 6pm CET, Danger will not be able to move to another German club, where the bulk of the interest has come from (Stuttgart and Cologne). He can still move to a country where the window is still open however with some leagues in Eastern Europe still with days to go until they shut.
