Marvin Friedrich, the goal-grabbing defensive stalwart of Union Berlin has once again been mentioned as a Leverkusen target. Sport1 report that surprise French champions Lille have entered the race for the defender who could leave Union for as little as €7m with Borussia Monchengladbach being the other interested party. Given our desperate situation in terms of defenders, as it stands only Retsos and Jedvaj would be able to start against Lokomotiv Leipzig in the Pokal, and yesterday the news broke that our top defensive target, Kristoffer Ajer, is on the move to Brentford, a cheap fix like Friedrich could well be on the cards. Were Monchengladbach to win the race however, the door would surely creak open for a Ginter departure.
Christos Tzolis, the 19-year-old wing sensation from PAOK, is now a target of Bayer 04, that is if you believe @SznHellas on Twitter. Last season he was able to muster a brilliant 16 goals and 10 assists in 46 games. With a market value of €12m and a contract expiring in 2024, he won't come cheap. Competition for the player includes the likes of Manchester United and rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.
Departures
Massive news from Moscow today. We knew for a little while that Tin Jedvaj was on the list of Lokomotiv Moscow but this morning came the news that personal terms were agreed between himself and the club according to Russian Football News. Early this afternoon more details emerged. TuttoMercatoWeb states Tin is set to earn €1.7m per season and the Werkself could receive a fee between €5m and €6m - well above his market value. What truly makes the information concrete is the fact that he has not been selected as part of the squad that will take part in the Zell am See-Kaprun. Not bad business from the management for a player that hasn't really had any opportunities with us for so long.
