Improved Alario offer, potential replacement found? Transfer Update 14/01/2022

Arrivals

'O Jogo' of Portugal write that SC Braga's 21-year-old striker Vitinha is 'on the radar' of Bayer Leverkusen. The Portugal U21 international has 10 goals and 3 assists in all competitions so far this season and has a lot of suitors aside from the Werkself, including West Ham, Fiorentina, Atalanta and Sporting CP. The Lisbon outfit plan to start talks with Braga with an opening offer of 5 million euros. The player has a release clause of €30m and so despite his low market value of €2m, he could be considerably more expensive in reality.

Earlier this month, The Sun and other large British newspapers reported that Bayer Leverkusen were in advanced talks to sign Eddie Nketiah on a free transfer this summer, with an agreement expected to be reached by the end of last week. It turns out, according to Sky Sports News, that nothing has actually happened yet between ourselves and the Arsenal striker. Rather, it should be Borussia Monchengladbach who are the German club which started negotiations with Leverkusen merely asking about his availability.

Departures

Lucas Alario's move to Palmeiras appears to have stalled. This was due to the South American champions refusing to pay a loan fee the one year loan. However, since they have prepared a much more realistic offer of €1m as a loan fee and a €8.5m option to buy (according to Pedro Almeida), things could start to accelerate again. As it stands, Palmeiras is meeting all of Bayer Leverkusen's criteria and they are even offering Alario improved wages. Given this, a deal could be wrapped up soon!

In the press conference today ahead of Saturday's game against Borussia Monchengladbach, manager Gerardo Seoane had the opportunity to address the rumours closely linking Nadiem Amiri to CFC Genoa. He said, "there's a little bit to it, a little bit added", indicating that talks may be underway but nowhere near the completion stage as so many reputable journalists claimed. That a deal was relatively further off than first reports suggested was evident when Amiri turned up to training on Thursday, rather than flying to Italy to do his medicals. The Germany international is due to be part of the squad that faces our close rivals tomorrow evening.
