High offer for Bakker, Kanga officially joins. Transfer Update 20/01/2022

Arrivals

Today 16-year-old Swedish attacker Jardell Kanga was officially welcomed to Bayer 04. He will first play for our U19s.

Departures

Whilst not long ago it was reported that Lucas Alario was not interested in leaving Bayer Leverkusen. This should not have stopped interested clubs Venezia and Palmeiras. The Italians are supposedly preparing a concrete offer to the Argentina international according to Fussball Transfers. Palmeiras have also put yet another proposal on the table. TyC Sports say that they are willing to spend €9m to sign Alario permanently - much different from the previous ones which have all been loans with purchase options.

The Daily Mail yesterday wrote of talks occurring between Newcastle and Leverkusen over a possible transfer of Mitchell Bakker, with the Magpies offering the chance of a 'quick profit'. Now we know what that means - €17.5m. Were we to accept we would have made over €10m in the space of half a season. The player himself is allegedly 'open' to a move. However given that we have only just signed him and the rarity of talented young left backs, let alone ones which are available to transfer halfway through the season, a much higher offer would be necessary for Newcastle to tempt us into handing him over. Given their recent £25m splurge on Chris Wood from Burnley, their new owners have already shown that they are not afraid to be frivolous with their cash!

The transfers of both Panos Retsos and Nadiem Amiri to Hellas Verona and CFC Genoa respectively could both soon be official. Sky Sports say that the Greek defender will arrive in Verona on Monday on a free transfer but with the Werkself having a percentage of a future sale. In regard to Amiri, Sky Sports Italia say that a deal is now done - in his case, he will leave on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy worth €9m - an obligation if they avoid relegation. With Amiri, a replacement must be signed before he is free to leave, so whilst there is agreement, it is still not quite done yet.

Lennart Grill, according to Kicker, is on the wish list of Danish giants Midtjylland. However given Lunev's recent serious injury, he is now the number two and as a result, any attempt for the Germany U21 international is being blocked.
