Faivre, Kabak update and early Gray exit? Transfer Update 18/07/2021

Arrivals

Yesterday evening we learnt the most likely destination of Ozan Kabak - it is Leicester. Italian journalist Rudy Galetti reports a fee of €9.5m amid 'advanced negotiations'. Were this true and we were to miss out on him, it would represent a big failure. With such a low fee (€15.5m below market value), it would be absurd for Leverkusen not to have taken a punt as even if we offered considerably more than the English club we would still have a bargain on our hands. A deal isn't done until it's done so a little glimmer of hope still remains.

This evening Fabrizio Romano himself tweeted out that Bayer Leverkusen have asked for Romain Faivre, the French Under-21 international from Brest, with Borussia Monchengladbach opening talks for the player. Bayer have kept tabs on him for a while now - he was one of the most spoken about rumours in the last transfer window. He would not come cheap as his price is set at around the €23m mark. Given he is a winger and we already have Bailey, Diaby, Gray, Bellarabi, Paulinho etc, a transfer would only make sense were one of them to leave - most likely Bailey or Gray as you can read below. There are surely more pressing matters to attend to.

Departures

A few days ago I wrote about Lennart Grill and speculation linking him with a move to Union Berlin. Well according to the latest information from 90min.de, that deal seems to be off with Eintracht Frankfurt backup Frederik Rönnow about to take the number one spot. This would be very disappointing for Grill - with four goalkeepers in the team he stands close to zero chance of making an appearance next season and after the suggestions Hamburg could be in for him being well and truly shut down, his development is on the line.

According to Paul Joyce (The Times), Everton are closing in on a deal for Demarai Gray. A deal worth €2m which is no more or less than what we paid just six months ago. Personally I would be sad to see him leave so soon though his short contract length until 2022 always made it seem Leverkusen were nothing more than a pit stop for him. It is quite ironic that the same people able to negotiate €4m for Jedvaj cannot press for more than €2m for Gray, a player surely worth at least twice the amount.
