In a interview with Iranian outlet Footballi, Sardar Azmoun took the time to explain his transfer situation. At one stage, he was supposedly extremely close to being a Bayer 04 player but Zenit chose to stop a move taking place due to their lack of a suitable replacement for the striker. A similar scenario happened with Lyon. He said "If I leave, it will be this summer as a free agent". Unless he is asking for his contract to be terminated, he means once his contract expires in 2022. Negotiations over a pre-contract agreement can commence in the winter transfer window but after Alario's extension to 2024, Azmoun's ship may have already sailed.
Bayer Leverkusen, along with Bayern Munich, have reportedly asked about 22-year-old Benfica striker Darwin Nunez according to Fussball Transfers. Nothing further happened after the enquiry however as the Uruguayan has a very high asking price, a long term contract until 2025 and a release clause of €150m. Last season he managed 26 goal contributions across 44 appearances in all competitions. Like with Azmoun, we can safely count ourselves out of a commitment in the immediate future after Alario and Pohjanpalo chose to stay with the club.
