Amiri goes on loan, Azmoun announced for the second time. Transfer Update 30/01/2022

Arrivals

There shall be no replacements for Nadiem Amiri according to Kicker. Negotiations between PSG and Bayer Leverkusen had been at an advanced stage for Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe, with a deal agreed in principle, but due to the the Parisians insisting on €6m more for an option to buy after catching wind of Bakker's alleged move to Newcastle, as well as the inclusion of a buyout clause, the talks broke down. It was then suggested by Loic Tanzi of RMC Sport that Leverkusen were still showing interest in Tanguy Ndombele of Spurs, a player that PSG had wanted, but failed to get, due to their greed when trying to sell Ebimbe. Kicker also reports that there should be nothing to our interest with Ndombele either - rather unsurprising given that he is Tottenham's joint highest earner, commanding a salary of £200,000 per week.

Sardar Azmoun has finally been announced as joining this winter. After initially being signed for the summer, given the manner in which he negotiated, took part in medicals and signed with the Werkself, breaking Zenit's protocols in the process, relations between the Iranian and the Russian champions turned drastically sour. So bad that Azmoun was reportedly threatened with being made to play with the second team and, more recently, the player supposedly wanted his contract terminated so he could join on a free. He does not join for free however as a fee in the low millions was due; Transfermarkt claims €4m.

Departures

Nadiem Amiri has now officially left the club to join CFC Genoa on loan until the end of the season. Should Genoa avoid relegation, they will have to pay an obligation to buy of 9 million euros. I wish him the best of luck and every success in the latest chapter of his career.

16-year-old attacking midfielder Arda Sune, captain of our U17s, has also left to join FC Koln's U19s, signing a contract until 2025. Whilst transfers of youth players between Rhineland clubs are not supposed to happen, Sune's contract with Leverkusen expires this summer which allows Koln the same justification that we had when we signed Wirtz.
