Departures
Lucas Alario, long associated with moves away from the club, whether it be Palmeiras or, more recently, Venezia, is apparently now keen on staying in Leverkusen according to Sky. Allegedly the Argentine had actually agreed personal terms with Palmeiras (likely because they presented an increase in his pay) but with a transfer to Sao Paolo off the table, he finds his options limited. Rather than play regular football at relegation-threatened sides, he opts to remain understudy to the prolific Schick, perhaps throwing away the last shred of hope of going to Qatar in the process.
Yesterday it emerged that Lunev suffered a syndesmosis ligament tear during training which will keep him out for at least 3 months. This is bad news for our reserve goalkeeper Lennart Grill who, after his loan in Norway to Brann Bergen, again finds himself on the bench at a crucial time in his development. Whilst we could promote a player from our U19s, and the likelihood of an injury occurring to Hradecky being very rare, coronavirus means that nobody is safe from being put on the sidelines for a matchday or so. Given this risk, it is almost certain that Grill will remain with the Werkself until the end of this season. The Germany U21 goalkeeper had been briefly linked to Greuther Furth earlier in the window by Kicker but talks broke down as the Bavarian team opted to sign a more experienced keeper in Andreas Linde.
